Why I Watch Anime

This is perhaps the one question you should ask yourself. I know it seems retarded to you,but people seem to not ask this.

You need to answer this question because you need to see what kind of passion you have.

At first impulse, I was a casual fan of a diet composed of mostly Shounen anime. I never really had that reason that a otaku would have. I never watched anything else but Dragon Ball, Ghostfighter, Gundam W... Never really cared when there was no action involved... Then came one of the most important moments in my life. I was only a pretender then, never really cared for anything but my one true love. Yes, pretending was a great job... but when my love asked me: "What do you want to be? Do you want to be "you" or you would rather become somebody else" that's when I realized that She loved me... and though there's nothing romantic or mushy about it, I felt liberated by her words. It was I aeriolewinters, from obsessed Boyband fan to Poser, and finally as a true otaku. What made me decide?

It was Rorouni Kenshin at first. I remember watching it when I was 14, I totally loved the story. It really was the first anime I cared about. I even went overboard one time f not eating my lunch to save money for the big field trip to buy some VCDs from Comic Alley. The next big step was my friend introducing me to an owner of a Computer Shop which was also an Anime Shop. I bought "Love Hina" and "Chobits" and soon it became a really big hobby, I collected series ranging from Card Captor Sakura to Inuyasha back then...

The last step to becoming an otaku was my interest to actually knowing what the story tells you. It was Gundam SEED that completed the transformation. I assessed the stories and the messages from the anime so that I could do a critical analysis of the anime. SEED opened alot of windows for me mentally and psychologically. I was now aware of Ethical and Racial problems faced by the real world. It also opened up another gate to another level, the Internet.

The internet is a paradise for most Otaku, since you can acquire many anime via Bittorrent, iRC , Limewire, and of course Youtube. I started out acquiring more popular series like Naruto, Gundam SEED Destiny, or Bleach. But I got more involved because of my 2nd home: Animesuki. Animesuki was a real haven of brilliant... and not so brilliant minds. Most of the anime I watch are well-known in Animesuki.

The Internet also made me more aware of everything anime-related: Doujin games, Seiyuus, J-pop, and of course... Manga. It came to a point that I make it sure that my favorite Seiyuus were included in the anime I'm trying out.

In the end, Anime definitely has changed my life. The reason I watch it is because of the lessons it gives me. Not only the simple lessons in life, but most of the time the complex ones. It will always be my legacy as I grow old.
